January 2016 Pictures

Happy New Year!

We began 2016 by watching all the fireworks around Cuenca.  What a fabulous show!

Cuenca then celebrated Day of the Innocents, a time for satire and Halloween type masks and costumes.
Vendors at the Square were doing a brisk business.

We continue to walk the City, always finding more fun things...This photo reminds us of our childhood...

SOLCA (Cancer center) sponsors a bus for cancer info and screening.  One day the bus was parked at the Square with lots of interested citizens.

We could use more rain!  Maybe this el Nino will be a drought for us here in the Andes.  We occasionally get sprinkles and high winds and dark clouds, but not enough for the watershed in the Cajas ...yet.

Fresno trees in bloom.

Fun street art.

A dinosaur exhibit.

Fabian had a birthday this month.  Fun party to celebrate.

A fun peak of construction down a long hallway to an interior courtyard in El Centro.

Now Carnaval is almost here, more on that next month.

Exploring Near Paute

We are happy that the Uzhupud Hacienda is open again after being closed for several months.  Now under new management.

We took a walk through the grounds one day.
Cute kitty!

Still lovely gardens.

One afternoon we took a ride on one of the roads headed UP from Paute.  Beautiful scenery and interesting little towns.

Always fun to visit those seldom explored roads here in the Andes.
