Historic Winery in Uruguay

We toured an old winery outside Colonia.  This is the oldest winery in Uruguay, now a part of the country's patrimony.

Heritage French vines for the red tannat wines are planted here and doing well. The wine is very delicious!

There is a long tradition of wine-making and drinking in Uruguay.  The Jesuits probably made some for their own use, but one of the first mentions of wine and vineyards appeared in the 1700's.

Unfortunately, this winery does not export outside of Uruguay.  Which means we have to go back to Uruguay to drink more of these fabulous wines!
