Parque de El Paraiso (Paradise Park)

We've gone by this park many times, but just never got out of the taxi to explore.

On a recent Sunday,  we finally were in the right place/time to visit.  So glad we did!

What a little slice of paradise.  We'd describe it as a cross between Tilden Park in Berkeley, CA (lots of eucalyptus trees and smells) and San Francisco's Golden Gate Park.  El Paraiso is smaller than both, but just as pretty and peaceful.

It's the biggest park in Cuenca, located where the Yanuncay and Tomebamba rivers join up.

The flowers are blooming!  Nice places for families to play and picnic.

A creative raised walkway and open fields.

Cute birds outside a little shop in the park.

An example of signs prompting 'right behavior'...

Other signs said:  Place trash in the garbage cans, dogs not allowed (in some areas) and leave the plants alone.

Not one sign said:  Stay off the grass!

We'll be back!

  1. Fabulous photos! I want to find a rock to sit on and enjoy the sounds, smells, and sight of the rivers joining. What a peaceful and enriching scene. Thanks for a glimpse.
